I am the Engineering Director for a company that builds fitness console equipment. Our multimedia consoles receive normal ATSC/NTSC/QAM signals to display TV Video. I would like to add the capability of receiving IPTV as well. So, in a sense, this multimedia console would act like a STB and TV built in it.

As I am diving into this capability, the main question is how does a STB know how to communicate to an IPTV provider?

Now, in the ATSC/NTSC/QAM, it is easy to understand decode the modulation to determine valid channels and the display per that channel when the user selects it.

Any guidance/direction to what I am looking for is great. Any body at AT&T can point me out to their new product development group would also be appreciated.

1. Disconnect the power cord from you modem

2. Disconnect the coaxial cable and the ethernet cable from your modem

3. Leave the modem's power off for 1 minute

4. Reconnect the coaxial cable first, then reconnect the power. Leave the ethernet unplugged.

5. Allow the modem to regain its connection to your ISP, generally takes 2-3 minutes.

6. Reconnect the ethernet cable.

Do they work with wireless routers?

Is there any wireless interferance?

Which ones are both cost effective and good quality?

There are a lot less instances of having to constantly change wireless channels to keep SkyAngel from freezing.
Before the upgrade, Wireless N band signals and multiple networks (condos and dense residential areas) would cause the STB to freeze up. There are still a few instances where cordless phones cause freezing issues. This mainly occurs when the base of the phone is near (or sitting on) the SkyAngel box. Microwave ovens still cause problems, especially in smaller houses.

If the STB is located in an entertainment system with a device like the wireless audio system, the audio system will probably drown out the signal and kill the network performance of the STB.

Devices that operate using 2.4Ghz:
Bluetooth devices, 2.4Ghz cordless phones, microwave ovens, and other wireless gear (like the audio system above).

It is generally a poor idea to link to remote images without permission from the remote site owner. If the owner replaces the image without your knowledge, your post could inadvertantly become very inappropriate. It is perfectly OK to link to images hosted on your own site, or on sites where you pay the cost of bandwidth. If you don't have your own site there are free image hosting services.

9. Keep signatures short.
In the interest of controlling bandwidth and enhancing readability, extravagant or distracting signatures are strongly discouraged. The forum provides a robust profile capability for contact information and personalization. If you use a signature, it may not exceed 5 lines. Images in signatures may not exceed 100 x 500 pixels. Verizon FIOS typically uses an ActionTec MI424-WR or a Westell 9100.

Verizon appears to at least be blocking incoming port 80 traffic, and outgoing port 25 traffic.

It looks like they only offer speeds up to 18Mbps at this time. They do offer lower "express" packages of 1.5Mbps, and other packages all the way to the 18Mbps package. They offer IPTV and VoIP services as well.

I only recall one case with a SkyAngel customer who had this service, and they were provided the 2Wire 3800 gateway. This entire Uverse system was on WPA: the wireless gateway, the wireless computers, the wireless Uverse IPTV box. This was before the 2.5.0 upgrade so the STB wouldn't connect wirelessly. If WPA is a typical Uverse setup, SkyAngel would have to be hardwired (or their network temporarily reconfigured to WEP) so the STB can connect and download the upgrade, and thus be compatible with WPA.

The manual states that the customer has to set up the password to log in, there is no default. This may have been set by the Verizon tech, or she didn't remember it. This call ended with her contacting Verizon for log-in information.
